Art Deco, a fashionable design movement that emerged in the early 20th century, continues to captivate with its timeless elegance and sophisticated aesthetic. While the movement encompassed various aspects of design, including architecture, fashion and visual arts, it left a lasting impact on interior design, particularly in the realm of bathroom design. From its origins in the past to its enduring influence in the present, Art Deco bathroom design remains a symbol of luxury and glamour.

Requesting their primary bathroom be beautifully updated into a functional space with lots of natural light, these homeowners turned to interior designer Ellie Redders to make their dream a reality. “We were aiming to achieve a feeling of peacefulness with a clean, airy backdrop to allow the elements in the space to become the focal point,” Redders explains.

The homeowner originally wanted to have two separate bathrooms, but as the design came together Mitchell Wall Architecture and Castle Design used the 275 square feet of space for the two baths to become one. The challenge was creating a shared bath that also allowed separation between users. Back-to-back vanities gave the client the division they desired while using the space effectively. The vanities were stained to match the wood flooring. The homeowner also wanted a large steam shower, soaking tub and plenty of natural light.
