Designed as a calming retreat, this primary bathroom balances clean architectural lines with a warm, natural material palette. Honed limestone flooring, white oak cabinetry, creamy quartzite countertops and brushed brass fixtures create a layered sense of texture. A freestanding soaking tub framed by expansive windows anchors the space and enhances its spa-likeness. Photography Courtesy of Linsey Dunn Architecture.

The elegance of this lake house master bathroom is elevated by the brass-finished tub, which commands attention as a luxurious focal point that anchors the space. Its unique reflective finish offers a striking contrast to the organic texture of the grasscloth wallpaper, but it also beautifully echoes the coordinating hardware throughout the space, a testament to thoughtful, cohesive design with an unexpected flair. The inspiration began with the setting, an expansive property in Northern California, and the view of nature's majesty just beyond the glass. Everything was designed to draw that serenity inward, beginning with the tactility of the stone. Hand carved from a single slab of onyx and weighing nearly 800 pounds, the faceted tub reads like one giant gemstone, and once you settle in, the stone closes around you and holds the warmth of the bath. The floors were reinforced to carry it and the room was built entirely around it, all in service of one idea, making your own home the best spa on earth. Photography by Paul Dyer.

This bathroom, in a home on the Kohala Coast of Hawaii, was inspired by Balinese architecture, integrating the garden and the interior. The copper tub sits in a bed of polished black quartzite stones. Photography by Mary E. Nichols.
