When renovating this residence with strong existing original architectural character, the goal was to restore a sense of integrity while updating the spaces for modern living. This primary bath presented a particular challenge: it’s small scale. Rather than fight for more space, they leaned into it — committing fully to a dramatic material story that rewards the intimacy of the room. A classic marble field provides the foundation, while a floor-to-ceiling black marble porcelain shower with brass inlay introduces tension and contrast. The custom unlacquered brass washstand console keeps the footprint open and the space feeling curated rather than crowded. Scalloped brass mirrors and vintage-inspired pendants complete the composition. The result is a bathroom that feels like it has always belonged in this house.  

Why the judges love it:
The designer was certainly successful in making the space feel light and open despite its actual size. It is in the small details that this bathroom is able to feel grand and romantic using simple and complementary materials.
