As you begin to fill in your garden, consider these blooms for full sun, full shade and partial sun. Your garden will be lush and beautiful in no time.

Full Sun
“One of my favorite sun plantings is the scavola. I like the prolific bloom and color that scavola exhibits. It also helps that it is extremely durable and easy to grow.”
Jim Graeler, Chesterfield Valley Nursery

“The ‘Weihenstphaner Gold’ Sedum is a versatile, drought-tolerant plant that can be used in rock gardens, along flagstone paths or as a groundcover in those hot, full-sun planting beds. Golden yellow star like flowers burst into bloom in late spring to early summer.”
Jason Todd, Landscape St. Louis

“Buddleia or Butterfly bush is a hardy, sun-loving family of perennials that bloom all summer. Butterflies and hummingbirds are strongly attracted to these plants. They are nice for cut flowers that last for days and don't make a mess. Colors range from blue, purple, pink, and white.  A yellow variety has not been found to be regularly hardy.  The different varieties vary in size from 3' tall to 8' tall.”
Jim Meiners, Prestige Landscape

Full Shade
“Torenia Hybrid, Summer Wave Large Violet – Finding annuals blooming for shade can be a difficult task. One that we like is this Torenia hybrid. The large violet blooms are persistent from planting until frost. It can tolerate heat and doesn’t require deadheading. It has a trailing form and can be used in landscape beds to create a carpet effect in front of taller material.”
Daniel Mee, Frisella Nursery

“The ‘Gold Standard’ Hosta is a true standard for shade gardens! The chartreuse leaves are accented with bluish green edges that illuminate the garden. Try planting this hosta in front of darker, coarser textured plants to add interest in shady spots.”
Jason Todd, Landscape St. Louis

“One of my favorite shade flowers is the impatiens. I like the prolific bloom and color that impatiens exhibits. It also helps that it is extremely durable and easy to grow.”
Jim Graeler, Chesterfield Valley Nursery

Partial Sun
“The Bobo Hydrangea is a stunning plant that is smothered by large white flowers from mid summer until frost. The flowers are held upright on strong stems, and continue to grow and lengthen as they bloom. In fall, blossoms transform to a soft pink. Plants grow 3' tall and 3-4' wide.”
Ann Lapides, Sugar Creek Gardens

“Although an annual, the color from the ‘Trusty Rusty’ Coleus , a stunning foliage plant, makes a statement in planters and mixed garden beds. The red foliage makes a bold effect when planted as a mass group or use as a contrasting color accent in your annual arrangements. Expose to slightly more sun will amplify the golden edge of the leaf.”
Jason Todd, Landscape St. Louis

“My favorite perennial for partial shade is the Hellebores or commonly called Lenten Rose. This plant is also deer resistant, with its striking early blooms in an array of different colors, from a blackish purple, white, pink, orange or multi colored flowers.”
David Sherwood, Sherwood’s Forest
