This second home was built as a gathering place for family get-together, holidays and weekends. The homeowners worked with Gegg Design & Cabinetry to design their dream kitchen, which was to be simple and reflective of the classic architecture for a refined farmhouse feel. Classic materials were selected including the white painted galley cabinets, walnut hood with black steel strap details and an island with a custom green paint finish and natural oiled walnut top. Since the kitchen is not used for daily living, large amounts of storage were not necessary.

After purchasing a ranch on nearly three wooded acres outside the city, the new homeowners quickly made plans to renovate the vast kitchen. Having renovated four kitchens in past homes, they were familiar with undertaking such a major project. But this time, they chose to work with a professional to make the process easier and stress-free. The couple was introduced to Rebekah Murphy, designer at Karr Bick Kitchen & Bath, by their realtor.

It was an ambitious project—to say the least—for a St. Louis couple who took their original kitchen down to the studs and subfloor while inhabiting the rest of the house. Because the age of the home caused many challenges in the structure and overall design of the remodle, the project took eight months. Yet, the homeowners knew the final outcome would be well worth the wait.
