Native Pollinators

This summer, the Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House invites guests of all ages to learn about and celebrate the pollinators that support Missouri’s native plants and habitats.

Throughout the months of June and July, the Butterfly House will be offering programming themed around moths, fireflies and other beloved pollinators. 
 
National Pollinator Week 
June 23-28, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. 
Included in admission 
Learn about the native pollinators of Missouri, the plants they love and how you can support their conservation while exploring the Butterfly House. 

Fireflies and Friends Festival 
June 26, 5:30 – 9 p.m. 
Included in admission 
Celebrate the beetles (yes fireflies are actually beetles) that light up our summer nights, and other nighttime bugs like dragonflies and cicadas at the Fireflies and Friends Festival. Stay late at the Butterfly House and spend an evening with an entomologist as they offer animal encounters and firefly walks after dark. You can also take home your own firefly-themed art, learn about the
importance of dark skies and meet other community 
organizations helping 
pollinators. 

National Moth Week 
July 21-26, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. 
Included in admission 
Learn about the diverse world of moths, their fascinating life cycle and the important role they play in ecosystems while exploring the Butterfly House. 

What's in Bloom:

As you visit the Butterfly House, you can see first-hand the flowers butterflies and other pollinators love. The Tropical Conservatory offers a variety of blooms from orchids to Chinese Hibiscus, while the Native Butterfly Garden  hosts carefully selected to provide a habitat for caterpillars and nectar sources for native butterflies.
