When it came to this first-floor bathroom remodel, Castle Design took cues from the Bali-inspired vibe of the home. Lush gardens, rich woods and a warm color palette played a role in the design. The 87-square-foot bath is the only one located on the first floor, so functionality was equally as important to the design as style. The designer used the Jack-and-Jill layout to create a unique floor plan that divided the vanity area from a fully accessible wet room. In the vanity area, the opaque, bronze glass vanity cabinet has ample storage and clean lines. Two sinks allow for ease of use by the two adjoining bedrooms. The vinyl wall covering features an island-inspired textural straw effect while mimicking the look of tile. Its waterproof nature makes it perfect in the bathroom setting. Silver floral sconces by Visual Comfort add a botanical note and soften the crisp, modern lines of the bath fixtures. The wet area features elements of universal design including a zero-threshold, easily accessible shower. Challenged by the small footprint, the designer selected clean-lined Kohler Loure towel bars, which provide a simpler and more compact solution to the typical wall-mounted towel bar. The bathroom is flanked by two reclaimed wood doors that offer breathtaking views of the home’s gardens. The landscape views inspired the unique mix of nature-inspired materials and modern elements. The designer says, “This thoughtfully designed bath proves that architecture is at its best when in harmonious, close contact with nature -- a cornerstone of Balinese design.”
Why the judges love it: This is one of the most impressive Jack-and-Jill baths we have ever seen. The mix of the wall covering and sconces on the vanity wall is everything! Separating the shower and sinks is so functional. We love the Balinese influence!
