Facing a bathroom that had not been touched since the home had been built in the 1950s, Marcia Moore Design brought the space up to the times while honoring the Mid-Century Modern style of the 50s. The previous bath was small with only one sink, a small shower and a soffit that closed in the bathroom. A hall linen closet abutted the shower wall, so the designer stole space from the hall closet to expand the bathroom to include two sinks and a larger shower. They also removed the soffit to visually expand the space. To achieve the Mid-Century Modern styling, material selections were extremely important. The warm, natural color and graining of the solid walnut cabinetry led the way. The homeowners loved the contrast between the warm wood tones and the black, white and brass color palette. A hexagon shape on the floor played well with the square wall tile. The Mid-Century Modern style is also emphasized in the simple, streamlined materials like the Kohler Purist faucet.

Why the judges love it: What a transformation! This bathroom has a great Mid-Century Modern feel. We love the variation in the graining of the wood cabinetry.
