Reflection of Gray
Gegg Design & Cabinetry undertook this kitchen remodel with the goal of making gray look interesting.  After altering the space structurally, the kitchen was laid out in a way that it could be designed symmetrically. Using dark gray as a base color, the cabinetry evolved into a gray with pearl essence glaze that gives it a reflective property that changes with different angles and lighting situations. Curved mullions were used with mirrored panels on the cabinet fronts to further enhance their look. The mirrored look was repeated on some of the drawer fronts, refrigerator front, butler pantry backsplash, island sides and corner post details. Frameless cabinetry with an applied molding door was used to keep a clean look with bold proportions. Other reflective properties include a white-ish granite with reflective elements, white glass pearl essence mosaic tile backsplash, chandeliers and polished nickel hardware. The end result is a kitchen that is gray as the homeowners requested, but it is far from gloomy.

Judges’ Comments: This is truly a unique kitchen. The gray color was incorporated well. Carrying the crown molding into the window shows great attention to finish and detail.
