From the time she was young, Viki Diedrich has been an inspired artist. Whether it was painting murals in her room as a teenager or taking inspiration from the work of famed artist Peter Max, Viki has always found outlets to explore her creative talent. It was not until her three children were born, however, that she decided to let the true artist within emerge, turning painting from a hobby into a career. A multitalented, self-taught artist with a flair for color and dimension, Viki is influenced by a wide range of life’s many facets, from nature’s insects to the intangibility of profound emotion. “I am constantly looking at color palettes, shapes and textures in the world around me,” she explains. Still, above all, Viki insists she is most deeply inspired by her father, a gifted woodworker. More than just a close family – they’re an artistic team. In collaboration for more than 20 years, “Viki and Dad,” as the father-daughter duo endearingly signs their pieces, are known for creating unique and beautifully hand-painted sculptures. Throughout her career, Viki’s artwork has taken on a variety of styles and forms – from accent furniture, wall murals and free-standing sculptures to more traditional, two-dimensional paintings. Many of her pieces are custom-created for the clientele of her mother’s (and business manager’s) store, Limited Additions Gallery – a gallery that Viki likes to call “client-interactive.” Her current projects are mixed-media wall sculptures entitled “Kaleidoscopics,” and are reflective of her unique style – energetic, dynamic and full of color. And the artistic family legacy continues with her daughter, a wood sculpture major at the Maryland Institute College of Art, joining the field. “When we’re together working – all three generations – my cup runneth over,” says Viki.
