What sparked your interest in pursuing a path in interior design? When I was 17 years old, I joined an Explorer group through Scouts. We took a trip to the furniture department of Stix, Baer & Fuller. I was so taken aback by the beautiful furniture and surroundings, I knew instantly that I wanted a career that would allow me to work with such wonderful merchandise.
How have your skills and tastes evolved throughout your career? My skills have grown throughout my career, and I am continually faced with new and exciting challenges on my clients’ job sites. I thrive on the constant problem solving that I encounter daily. My personal tastes have always been eclectic, leaning toward contemporary, and I appreciate quality furniture that is timeless.
How have your clients’ interests influenced your perspective on design?I feel privileged to have a diverse clientele with a wide array of interests. This, in turn, has led to a number of wonderful design projects. Whether it’s a full basketball court, a Cardinal playhouse, a garage makeover, or a Harley-themed game room, I find satisfaction in helping them achieve their goals.
What has been your favorite “offbeat” project?Early in my career, I was honored to design the interiors of three railroad cars for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The mahogany-lined car for the president of Peabody Coal was built in 1904. It went to Sikeston, Missouri to be measured for custom-fabricated furniture and bedding. Two vice presidents’ cars were completed with retro-style interiors.
How have interior design styles in St. Louis evolved as your career has flourished?I believe that travel exposes us to a broad spectrum of design and styles. Many St. Louisans often return from traveling with fresh and innovative ideas from other parts of the country. Working with these clients on their primary residence, or when designing a second home, has allowed me the opportunity to learn from their experiences.

Hometown: St. Louis
The “newest new” in design: The color red, especially an Asian red, is popping up everywhere. And furniture and design are heading toward a more simplistic look – with a clean, streamlined feel.
Architectural planning: At the firm, we love to space plan and think of a project by looking at the big picture – analyzing the whole space and looking at design options and lifestyle considerations.
